PART 4: Unmasking the Predator

PART 4: Unmasking the Predator

Family kitchens become federal crime scenes.

Elena scrambled up from the floor, her hair disheveled, her mascara running down her cheeks in dark, jagged streaks, abandoning all pretense of innocence as she realized the game was entirely up.

"So what if I did?!" Elena shrieked, her voice echoing shrilly against the high kitchen ceiling as she pointed an accusing finger at Marcus. "You think your father was ever going to give you control of the firm?! He was going to leave everything to his spoiled children and that useless baby upstairs!"

She laughed—a manic, jagged sound that sent chills down my spine even as I watched the security playback footage on my phone from miles away.

"I spent five years playing the doting wife to an old man who only cared about his legacy," Elena spat, backing slowly toward the back service door. "I earned every square inch of those properties. And a crying brat in an ice box wasn't going to stand in my way."

"Don't let her move!" the nanny shouted sharply, tightening her grip on my baby.

Marcus reacted with lightning speed.

He lunged across the kitchen floor, tackling Elena around the waist just as her hand reached the brass handle of the service exit.

She screamed, kicking and thrashing wildly, but Marcus pinned her arms securely behind her back, pressing her face down against the cold tile.

"You're not going anywhere, Elena," Marcus snarled, his voice trembling with a mixture of rage and profound disgust. "You're going to wait right here until the police arrive."

My father stood frozen by the island, his hands shaking as he clutched the original will to his chest.

He pulled out his mobile phone with a trembling finger, dialing three digits that would change all of our lives forever.

"Emergency dispatch," my father said, his voice hard, flat, and final. "I need officers at the Westlake estate immediately. Attempted murder of a minor and major estate forgery."

Within six minutes, the wailing sirens of three police cruisers pierced the suburban night, turning our family home into a federal-level crime scene.
