PART 4: The Collapse of the Syndicate

PART 4: The Collapse of the Syndicate

Corporate facades crumble under federal pressure.

The moment the words federal task force echoed across the grand ballroom, the thirty wealthy businessmen sitting at the long tables erupted into absolute chaos.

Chairs scraped violently against the floor as investors stood up all at once, shouting over one another, their faces contorted with panic.

"Federal task force?! What the hell is going on here, Daniel?!" shouted Marcus Vance, the primary venture capital investor who was supposed to inject four million dollars into Daniel’s construction firm the following morning. "Are you under federal investigation?!"

"No! No, she's lying!" Daniel shrieked, turning wildly toward his investors with desperate, flailing hands. "She's a vindictive, unstable woman trying to sabotage our wedding because she wouldn't play the traditional wife! Don't listen to her!"

"Lying?" I stepped closer to Marcus Vance, holding up a printed paper summary I had slipped into my inner bodice just in case things went south. "Mr. Vance, if you check your secure investor portal right now, you'll see the independent forensic audit report detailing how Daniel’s firm diverted your four million dollars into a shell company registered under his mother’s maiden name."

Marcus whipped out his smartphone with trembling fingers, swiping frantically across the screen.

Within thirty seconds, the color drained completely from the investor's face.

He stared at his phone, then glared at Daniel with eyes full of pure, unadulterated hatred.

"You embezzled our venture capital," Marcus growled, his voice dangerously low. "You used our development funds to pay off your mother’s real estate debts and finance this fake wedding."

Lorraine gasped, clutching her pearls as if she were about to faint. "Marcus! How dare you speak to my son that way! We are pillars of this community!"

"You're criminals," Marcus snapped, shoving his phone back into his tailored jacket pocket. "And any association with the Mercer name is officially toxic."

He turned around, gesturing to his associates. "Get your coats, gentlemen. We're walking out right now. And our lawyers will be filing an emergency asset-freezing injunction against Mr. Mercer before the hour is out."

Within two minutes, the high-society banquet tables were entirely abandoned.

The wealthy investors, the business partners, the distant relatives who had come only for free whiskey and networking—all of them fled the ballroom in a hasty, panicked stampede, desperate to distance themselves from the sinking ship of Daniel’s criminal enterprise.

The grand chandeliers overhead hummed softly, casting brilliant light over an empty, echoing room where a shattered wedding cake sat melting beside a pool of spilled champagne.

Daniel stood in the center of it all, his tailored tuxedo looking suddenly oversized and pathetic, his empire reduced to ash in less than ten minutes.
