PART 6: The Frozen Empire

PART 6: The Frozen Empire
Bank accounts lock with terrifying finality.
The descent from corporate titan to indicted criminal happened with breathtaking, terrifying speed.
By noon, the news alerts were screaming across every major financial news network and social media platform: Vance Global Assets Frozen Amid Federal Fraud Probe; CEO Richard Vance Under Criminal Investigation.
Back at the Vance mansion, the atmosphere of aristocratic luxury had been entirely replaced by chaotic panic.
Federal marshals had fanned out across the estate, slapping yellow crime-scene tape across the home offices, seizing luxury vehicles from the garage, and hauling away filing cabinets filled with decades of incriminating paperwork.
Richard sat at the mahogany dining table, staring blankly at his smartphone as it buzzed continuously with emergency notifications from panicked investors, resigning board members, and personal bankers refusing to honor his corporate credit cards.
His multi-billion-dollar empire was bleeding out in real time.
The heavy front doors pushed open, and Claire walked into the foyer, wearing her coat, carrying her briefcase, with little Leo holding tightly to her hand.
They were packed and ready to leave.
Richard looked up, his face twisted in a mask of psychotic fury as he stood up and marched toward them.
"You think you've won?!" Richard screamed, his voice cracking hysterically as spittle flew from his lips. "You think the courts are going to let you walk away with my money?! I built this company! I made you rich!"
"You built a criminal syndicate on the graves of honest people and the starvation of my sister," Claire replied calmly, shielding Leo behind her protective stance. "The courts aren't giving me your money, Richard. They're returning it to the victims, the pension funds, and the state trust established for my nephew."
Marcus Vance hurried down the grand staircase, looking disheveled and desperate, clutching a phone to his ear.
"Richard, we're finished!" Marcus panicked, his voice high-pitched. "Our offshore accounts in the Caymans have been seized by international regulators! The district attorney just rejected our plea bargain proposal! We're facing mandatory minimums of fifteen years!"
Richard grabbed Marcus by the lapels of his suit, shaking him violently. "Do something! You're a lawyer! Find a loophole!"
"There are no loopholes!" Marcus yelled, pushing Richard away. "Your wife didn't just file a complaint—she handed the DOJ a watertight, un-redacted roadmap of every single felony we committed since 2015!"
Richard slowly turned his head back toward Claire.
The invincible billionaire had completely vanished, leaving behind a broken, pathetic man staring into the absolute abyss of his own destruction.
"Claire... please," Richard whispered, his voice cracking as he took a slow, desperate step toward her. "We've been married ten years. Have mercy. Let's talk this out. We can leave the country together..."
Claire looked at him with profound, chilling pity.
"Mercy?" Claire asked softly. "Did you show mercy when you left my dying sister to rot in a basement apartment? Did you show mercy when you ordered your guards to throw an orphaned seven-year-old child onto a marble floor?"
She turned around, opening the heavy front door to the crisp afternoon air.

"Goodbye, Richard. Enjoy federal prison."
She stepped outside, pulling Leo close to her side, leaving the crumbling mansion and its disgraced master behind forever.
