PART 5: Fractured Loyalties

PART 5: Fractured Loyalties
Bridal suites echo with bitter betrayals.
Back inside the St. Regis Hotel, the bridal suite on the fourteenth floor felt less like a romantic honeymoon haven and more like a heavily guarded interrogation room.
Victoria Sterling—still wearing her crushed French lace wedding gown—paced furiously across the silk rug, her mascara running down her cheeks in dark, jagged streaks.
"Are you out of your absolute mind, Julian?!" Victoria shrieked, slamming her fist against the mahogany vanity table. "There were federal agents downstairs! Reporters are camping out in the lobby! My father is the sitting Lieutenant Governor, and our wedding is currently the top trending headline on every news channel in the country!"
Julian sat on the edge of the king-sized bed, his tuxedo jacket discarded on the floor, his head buried in his hands.
"Victoria, please... calm down," Julian muttered, his voice strained and panicked. "It's a smear campaign. That woman is mentally unstable. She escaped from a prison psychiatric ward—she’ll say anything to destroy us."
"She didn't just say things, Julian!" Victoria screamed, marching over and grabbing his hair, forcing him to look up at her. "She pulled physical evidence out of a locked casket at our wedding! Where did she get those flash drives?! What is on them?!"
Julian’s eyes flashed with a dangerous, cornered desperation as he batted her hands away and stood up to tower over her.
"Back off, Victoria," Julian snarled, dropping the polite, charming persona he had maintained throughout their entire courtship. "You knew who I was when you married me. You wanted the Sterling name, you wanted the multi-million-dollar estate, and you wanted my social standing. You don't get to panic now just because the bill for my success has finally arrived."
Victoria staggered back as if she had been physically struck, her mouth opening in sheer disbelief.
"You... you bastard," she whispered, horror dawning in her eyes. "Everything she said in that ballroom... it’s true, isn't it? You didn't just frame her. You built this entire life on stolen blood."
Julian didn't deny it.
He walked slowly over to the wet bar, poured a double shot of neat bourbon, and swallowed it in one burning gulp.
"History isn't written by the honest, Victoria," Julian said coldly, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand. "It’s written by the survivors. And I didn't come this far to let a dead woman drag me down to a prison cell."
He pulled his cell phone from his trousers, dialing a private, encrypted number.
"Get the offshore liquidation team on the line," Julian ordered the moment the call connected. "We're scrubbing the primary servers in Zurich. Right now."
A cold, robotic voice echoed from the phone speaker:

“Error. Master biometric protocol locked. Unauthorized override detected. System lockdown initiated.” Julian stared at the phone screen in absolute, paralyzing horror as the display flashed a bright, unyielding red: TRANSFER BLOCKED BY ESTATE ADMINISTRATOR. Elena’s voice echoed sharply in his memory from across the courtroom two years ago:
“You can steal the company, Julian. But you'll never open the vault without my blood.”
