PART 6: The Federal Net

PART 6: The Federal Net

Corporate towers fall to compliance raids.

Monday morning broke over the Boston financial district under a heavy, brooding blanket of gray rain clouds.

Yet, the gloomy weather did nothing to dampen the blinding glare of television news crews camped outside the towering, glass-and-steel monolith of Sterling Technologies.

At 8:00 a.m. sharp, three black SUVs belonging to the Federal Bureau of Investigation pulled up directly in front of the revolving glass doors.

A dozen federal agents in tactical windbreakers swarmed out, led by Special Agent-in-Charge Arthur Vance—no relation to Elena, but a legendary white-collar crime prosecutor known for never losing a case.

They bypassed the front desk entirely, marching straight into the private elevator bank and inserting a high-security master override card into the executive slot.

On the forty-fifth floor, the corporate executives and board members were already in a state of chaotic panic.

Julian Sterling sat at the head of the boardroom table, his face pale and haggard, having spent the entire weekend attempting to bypass the encrypted biometric locks on his own company's master financial servers—all to no avail.

The boardroom doors flew open with a resounding crash.

Special Agent Vance stepped into the room, flanked by two armed federal marshals.

"Julian Sterling?" Agent Vance announced, his voice ringing with absolute authority across the silent, sunlit room.

Julian stood up slowly, desperately trying to summon the arrogant aura of a billionaire CEO.

"Agent Vance. I believe there has been a profound misunderstanding," Julian began, forcing a tight, professional smile. "As CEO of Sterling Technologies, I demand to know—"

"Save your breath, Mr. Sterling," Vance interrupted coldly, slapping a thick stack of federal indictments onto the quartz conference table. "You are being placed under arrest for securities fraud, corporate embezzlement, wire fraud, extortion, and the first-degree murder of Thomas Vance."

A collective gasp echoed around the boardroom.

Several board members immediately stood up, backing away from Julian as if he carried a contagious plague.

"Murder?!" Julian choked out, his facade completely shattering. "That's absurd! Thomas Vance died of natural heart failure! There was an autopsy!"

"An autopsy that was falsified by a corrupt medical examiner who received a four-hundred-thousand-dollar wire transfer from one of your offshore shell companies three days after the funeral," Vance stated calmly, snapping heavy steel handcuffs around Julian’s wrists.

Julian thrashed violently, trying to pull away, but the federal marshals forced him down onto the conference table with crushing force.

"You can't do this! I am the head of this company! You have no proof!" Julian screamed, spittle flying from his lips as he was hauled toward the elevators in front of his cowering board members.

Agent Vance paused at the doorway, looking back over his shoulder with a cold, unyielding smirk.

"We didn't need your proof, Mr. Sterling," Vance replied evenly. "Your first wife left us a very detailed, very explosive roadmap. And trust me—she's going to love watching your trial from the front row."
